Thanks to everyone who joined us for the Churches Together Walk in Tuesday.  We had a great turn out from St Michael’s and across the churches and it was a really enjoyable day.  Ailsa.

Barn Dance Friday 4th October With our Barn Dance and Harvest Supper now only a couple of weeks away, please do purchase a ticket if you can – and think about who you can bring.  we would like to sell some more tickets to enable us to meet our costs in putting on what will be a great evening of fun and fellowship on Friday 4th October.  And remember that you don’t have to dance (although I bet you will!).  Join us at 7 for food, fun and a really great time.  Tickets are available from Angela and Ailsa.

Celebration of Creativity  Plans are going ahead for our celebration of Creativity Weekend to be held here at St Michael’s from 18 – 20 October culminating in a special service on Sunday 20 October.  There is now a signup sheet in the Book corner for people to help set up, serve refreshments and welcome visitors.  All exhibits need to be in church by Sunday 13 October.  Please see Angela Lockett to collect a car to label your work and submit it with the finished item.

Play My Part:  After a loss of confidence following a back problem last year, I am now back running!  I am not quite ready for a Half Marathon but am doing my first race this year, a little 10K at Tatton Park on Saturday 2 November.  I thought I would use this as an opportunity to “Play my Part” in raising funds for our church and I am hoping you will be able to sponsor me in raising £100 (or more!). for St Michael’s.  There is a sponsor form at the back of church and I would be grateful for anything you feel you can give.  Thank you.  Ailsa.

From the Chester Diocese Cycle of Prayer:  Intercession and Discipleship. In the late 1960s Gonville french-Beytagh was a prominent opponent of the apartheid regime in Southern Africa.  As Dean of Rain Mary’s Cathedral Johannesburg, he managed humanitarian assistance to local black families.  He was arrested in 1971 and accused of furthering unlawful activities.  Subjected to brutal interrogation and solitary confinement, he was convicted of subversion.  Early the next year he successfully appealed against his conviction and left South Africa on the day of his release.  from his exiled London home, he exercised an influential ministry of spiritual direction and wrote movingly of his own psychological and faith struggles.

In his book A Glimpse of Glory (1986, DLT) French-Beytagh wrote of intercession in this terms: ‘Your prayers are necessary and if you will not bother to intercede you are refusing someone a source of strength and help.  Consideer this world in the present day – the fear, the starvation, the many kinds of distress, and our terrifying weakness.  Some of the trouble exists because Christians are too damned lazy to pray – and I mean that literally.  Jesus loves the whole world and our concern should reach out towards the evil and horror of the whole world.’

Pray for the determined and tenacious intercession of Christ’s whole Church.

Pray for the Church of the Province of Uganda.  Archbishop Stanley Ntagali, Uganda and Bishop of Kampala.
